An H&M Find And A Goal Check-in...

Guess who's posting for the fourth time this month?!

*Points to Self*

First off, can we talk about the hat in the picture above!? I spotted this little gem at the H&M store in Times Square NYC and fell in L-O-V-E! There were only two left, but I went into a heavy debate with myself. The answer to your question is, "Yes." I bought it! I'm glad I picked it up because upon coming home and checking the website, I discovered there were none online.
You can visit your nearest H&M store or check out a similar style HERE.

Now onto my goal updates. In my New Year blog post, I had a list of goals. Well, now that the month has come to a close, I wanted to share some progress:

  • I wanted to become a pescatarian and I have been one for 3 weeks! I feel great actually - not really "missing" anything about meat (which is amazing because I thought I loved chicken.)
  • I wanted to do at least 1 "Sunday Inspiration" post a month and did my first one last week (check it out HERE).
  • The ultimate blogging goal was to publish at least 4 posts a month. This post is post #4, so BOOM!
  • I challenged myself to do/try something new once a month and this month I tried Korean BBQ for the first time. That was awesome, I'll definitely be going again.
The other two were connect with bloggers  & read more. I didn't get around to tackling those two, but I still have 11 months to go.

How are you accomplishing your New Year goals?

My January Favorites

I feel like I was just blogging about my New Year goals, now I'm already at my January favorites. I don't know about you all, but to me, time sure does seem to be flying!

Here's a shot of some of my favorite things from January:

  1. Aquaphor: This is the holy grail for my winter dry skin! It works wonders!
  2. Cover FX Face Primer: This primer goes on after my moisturizer and before my makeup. I used it only under my sephora water based foundation (not pictured) because it controls the shine.
  3. MAC's Cyber: Absolutely beautiful color for the winter months. It's dark and sexy... just like me!
  4. Serious Skincare Glycolic Gommage: I recieved this as a sample in a Birchbox and I will definitely purchase the full size when I am done. It describes itself as an "extreme renewal exfoliating facial" and that it is. My skin always feels soft and rejuvenated after washing off this mask.
  5. Revlon Colorstay Foundation in Mocha: I've only worn this foundation three times, I am still unsure about my final say. For now, I really like it. It's very matte and has a great color payoff for a drugstore foundation. Review to come.
  6. Cosmopolitan Magazine
  7. Merona Cobalt Blue satchel: I bought this bag from Target a week ago, but the verdict is still out. I have included it in my favorite things simply because of the gorgeous color! Lets see how it wears...
So, that's all folks!

What are some of your January favorites?

Sunday Inspiration: Be Vulnerable

Throwback to my birthday!
"...You open your heart knowing that there’s a chance it may be broken one day and in opening your heart, you experience a love and joy that you never dreamed possible. You find that being vulnerable is the only way to allow your heart to feel true pleasure that’s so real it scares you. You find strength in knowing you have a true friend and possibly a soul mate who will remain loyal to the end. Life seems completely different, exciting and worthwhile. Your only hope and security is in knowing that they are a part of your life.” -Bob Marley

Vulnerability: a word that I could not relate to for a long time. Vulnerability, to me, was a sign of weakness. If I kept my guard up, I wouldn't get hurt and I would forever appear "strong".

Although Bob is talking about being vulnerable in romantic relationships, I refused to be vulnerable in any relationship. Just call me emotionally retarded (retarded in the dictionary sense; read: slow or limited in intellectual, emotional development or academic progress.)

Sometimes, vulnerability takes a kind of strength that a person like me didn't poses. That's no way to live life. Part of the full (and fulfilling) human experience lies in that very ability to open up. I learned that, through a series of difficult lessons, over the past 2-3 years. Call it my very own anthesis.

I'm not sure if turning 21 (again) *WINK* did it for me, but suddenly I woke up one day over the holidays and realized that I had to let go of the fear of being vulnerable. Well, let me clarify, the real fear is the fear of getting hurt... you only get hurt when you're vulnerable. I had to grow. I had to get hurt and survive it to realize, "Oh shit, I can do this!" When your self love grows and solidifies, you realize the only people that can hurt you are the people you give that power to. You keep that power and being vulnerable no longer becomes a threat. That is a marvelous epiphany.

So be vulnerable. Open up; the things you hide deep inside are what make you you. Your eccentricities are beautiful. The people who are supposed to be in your life will remain there. The people who don't will find the exit at stage left.

This is your show, you need no extras.

What are your thoughts on vulnerability?

Happy New Year Blogger Family!

Time sure does fly, huh?

Last year, I went through some much needed growing pains and my blog suffered a bit. I made an attempt to let you all in on a bit of my frustrations HERE, but never being one to bask in my sorrow, I chucked myself on the chin and said, "Man up, girl!"

2014 is here and I feel good about it. I've decided there are some things I want to work on to become a better ME, and while I still believe that no resolution is the best resolution, I've decided to share a few of my goals for 2014. I want you guys to hold me accountable!
